Leaving On A Sailboat

Leaving on a sailboat

All my bags are packed; I’m ready to go
I’m standin’ here outside your door
I hate to wake you up to say goodbye

Ten years ago, I packed up everything I owned and drove west until I ran out of road.

Today, I’m going further.

Freya, my 26′ full-keel monohull sloop (I didn’t know what any of those words meant two years ago), and I are taking a short jaunt today from one side of the bay to the other, mooring overnight at Angel Island before our journey through the Golden Gate and Around The World (dramatic echo).

My starting point will be San Francisco with a destination of San Francisco, but since I’ll be crossing the international date line, it will be San Francisco ONE DAY IN THE FUTURE. But also because it will take me a couple years, it will be San Francisco TWO YEARS IN THE FUTURE.

As I go, I will write down the things I’ve learned; the answers I’ve found to every question I’ve asked, except maybe “why?”

Follow me here, or on Facebook, and share my adventure, and ask some of your own questions, like “What do you eat?” “Is there some sort of ocean Wi-Fi?” and “Have you gone insane yet?”
